I wish to add my respect to K-9 Rocco. He died earlier in the week after being stabbed. This brought the city of Pittsburgh to a standstill.

Memorial Services Will be Soldiers and Sailor’s Hall on Friday

Anyone wishing to make a donation to help the city pay Rocco’s medical bills can make a donation through the Greater Pittsburgh Police Federal Credit Union, 1338 Chartiers Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15220, by mail or by calling 412-922-4800. Checks and money orders can be made out to “Rocco Medical Fund.”

Police dog Rocco’s funeral to be open to public

By Anya Sostek / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

An outpouring of grief and support has spurred the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police to open the funeral for their slain police dog, Rocco, to the public.

The service will be held Friday at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the service is expected to last from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Priority seating will be given to law enforcement officers and their families.

Rocco’s handler, Officer Phil Lerza, originally asked that the funeral be closed to the public but changed his mind after numerous calls and emails and an outpouring of support from the public. “The tremendous show of support has deeply touched the Lerza family and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police,” said police in a press release.

The 8-year-old German shepherd’s body will be cremated, said police spokeswoman Diane Richards.

The K9 officer died Thursday after he was stabbed Tuesday night in Lawrenceville while trying to apprehend fugitive John Lewis Rush.

RIP Rocco.

Political Meme Mashup = WIN

The whole dog meme amuses me because it’s inherently stupid on so many levels. I like stupid when it’s funny, so let’s sum it up.

The Left made a big deal about how Mitt Romney transported his dog in a carrier decades ago.
The Right countered with Ayers’ Obama’s claim that he ate a dog decades ago.
The Left responded with outrage that the Right had the audacity to mock them and put dogs in the middle of the Important Political Discussion  that the Left brought up in the first place.

So let’s clear the air. According to the AKC, this is NOT how to transport a dog:

THIS is the proper way to transport a dog, according to Obama and his disciples:

If I were a dog on the internet and was able to type an opinion, I’d tell the world, “Don’t eat me.” Then I’d tell them, “Don’t put me in a box in the dark belly of a plane because I’ll be scared for hours.” Then I’d say, “Let me car surf instead on The Overnight Open Thread.”

Got this in an email and we lol’d, but then again, we’re easily amused. Thank God for people with too much time on their hands, otherwise we’d never have been able to post it on The Overnight Open Thread.

That billboard was kinda cool on its own, but when some Russian wags added the missing detail it became very cool.  Then I wondered about the origin of the ubiquitous Trollface.

Trollface first appeared in 2008 on the website DeviantArt. Although the internet icon is sometimes called “coolface,” its creator, “Whynne” said:

“It’s trollface, not coolface. Eat a dick.”

And the late great Jim Varney (aka Ernest P. Worrell) shows how it’s done:
