Battleground Tracking Poll: Mitt Romney takes lead

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Mitt Romney has taken a narrow national lead, tightened the gender gap and expanded his edge over President Barack Obama on who would best grow the economy.

A new POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Tracking Poll of 1,000 likely voters — taken from Sunday through Thursday of last week — shows Romney ahead of Obama by two points, 49 to 47 percent. That represents a three-point swing in the GOP nominee’s direction from a week ago but is still within the margin of error. Obama led 49 percent to 48 percent the week before.

Romney has not led in the poll since the beginning of May.

Across the 10 states identified by POLITICO as competitive, Romney leads 50 to 48 percent.

Not quite as good as the Gallup poll has been, but this is another indication that momentum is on Romney’s side. They always like to talk about a “gender gap”, but get this:

Women propelled Romney’s move into first place in the poll — a majority of which was conducted before the Hofstra debate. Obama’s 11-point advantage a week ago among the crucially important group dwindled to 6 points. The Democratic incumbent still leads 51 to 45 percent with women, but Romney leads by 10 points among men.

It really looks like Obama has a gender gap among men. The economy is paramount. Obama can’t win on the economy, so he has to make the election about something else. He had hoped that to be foreign policy, but the Benghazi assassination messed that up. One of those “bumps in the road” that’s “not optimal”, I guess.

ADDENDUM:

Here is the methodology for the poll. You can see that they are now weighting it nearly one-to-one Republican versus Democrat. I think that is a much more likely picture of the expected turnout. I expected to see this. As the time is drawing near, they don’t want their predictions to be too out of line with the actual results. The D+9 polls are over with.

These are the same types who claimed that “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day” was blasphemy and worth killing people for it. Nevermind that images of Mohammed have been painted and reproduced for centuries.  Every one of those little blue assholes on the map should be targets, IMO, and they probably are already.

Do I really have to add a caveat that innocent non-combatants be saved?  Yeah, I do, because I don’t believe that all Muslims are extremists, never have. Can’t defend the assholes, though.

Carry on.

Updated comment from the source:

“I see this and I think, cripes, man, have you seen even PART of that ridiculous shitty thing?  It’s all blackface and offensive mostly because it is so poorly done, designed to offend, like a joke that is all punchline and no build-up.  To be offended by that piece of shit is an offense to me. […] C’mon, Arab World, riot over some shit that matters.”

Did you spot that […]?  That’s where the commenter went scooters and blamed GWB. Otherwise, I kinda agree with the dickhead. Riot over some shit that matters, like tossing sharia law into the crapper forever. Then maybe we’ll talk about buying you food and water and shit, and introduce you to the technology of teh 1900s. Some of y’all got some serious catchin’ up to do.

UPDATE 9:00PM 15 September 2012: I don’t care how stupid, ignorant or deranged someone is, but this ain’t right. The guy has a Constitutional First Amendment Right and was arrested FOR EXPRESSING HIS OWN OPINION.

Folks, this is very wrong, and very disturbing.

Ben Bernanke Is An Idiot

How does a country that is epiglottisly deep in debt get out of it? Soak the taxpayers. Raise taxes and depress the economy even more. Keep investors hunkered down. As if things aren’t bad enough, what Bernanke’s proposing is likely to create inflation – that fortunately has been stagnant for years. Yeah, that’s the ticket to prosperity.

Anyone notice that big money players (like Warren Buffett, George Soros, George Paulson & Vladimir Putin) are buying up gold and precious metals like insane cat collectors? There’s a reason. They all know what’s coming down – a world-wide depression, thanks to an insane U.S. fiscal policy, set up by the Democrat-controlled Congress under the Bush administration, then promoted and promulgated by the Obama Regime.

And it IS a Regime.

Although the regime is sometimes hidden and not in front of the cameras of the general public, it has been aiding and abetting the radical left for decades, with a very patient step-by-step procedure. Although the names change, the mission is the same.

China didn’t fall to communism overnight. Neither did Russia fall immediately. Even the National Socialists began as an unpopular splinter group in Germany. It took decades and more before these evil regimes were accepted as a bunch of good guys looking out for the best interests of the populace.

Infiltrate the universities and schools. Check.
Indoctrinate the next generation. Check.
Infiltrate the main stream media. Check.
Install radicals in high positions of authority. Check
Create a large class dependent upon government for subsistance. Check.
Demonize the wealthy and successful. Work in progress.
Attack and ban religion and charity. Work in progress.

Once those simple tasks have been accomplished, the elites can take over and may God help us.

May God have pity on the rest of the world too, because if what this Regime wants comes to pass, the United States of America, the most successful nation in history, the most charitable nation in history, the most powerful nation in history, will not be able to help them any longer.

And Ben Bernanke is providing one more step on that path to the economic destruction of this great country.

Aside from the more serious rhetorical oratory of the GOP Convention (previously discussed on The Blogmocracy and elsewhere) Clint Eastwood’s performance was the perfect break. It would have been the perfect warm up act for any candidate running against Obama, and he nailed it. Addressing the Empty Chair:

“What do you want me to tell Romney?
[…]
I can’t tell him to do that.
I can’t tell him to do that to himself.”

He nailed it with wit, timing, and sarcastic humor. He’s an actor who knows how to ad lib when the situation requires it. How much of his presentation was scripted and how much was off-the-cuff doesn’t matter. It worked.

And speaking of ad-libbing and speaking off-the-cuff, welcome to the Friday Edition of The Overnight Open Thread.
